[Hakone] ▼ Hakone Shrine & Lake Ashi Torii Gate (approx. 60 minutes, free time)
Lake Ashi is a volcanic crater lake located in Hakone, formed about 3,000 years ago, and is the largest lake in Kanagawa Prefecture. It is a well-known sightseeing destination and a famous spot for viewing Mt. Fuji. The iconic red torii gate standing on the lake is a landmark of Hakone Shrine.
[Hakone Shrine]
Hakone Shrine was founded in 757 by Priest Mangan and has long been regarded as a sacred site of mountain worship. It was revered by many historical figures, including Minamoto no Yoritomo and Tokugawa Ieyasu. Known as a major guardian shrine of the Kanto region, it is believed to bring blessings for traffic safety, wish fulfillment, love, and good fortune.
[Torii Gate on the Lake]
The view of the torii gate and the silhouette of Mt. Fuji reflected on the lake surface is truly breathtaking—beyond words to describe.

[Hakone] ▼ Hakone Pirate Ship – Motohakone Port to Togendai Port Route (approx. 30 minutes; if not boarding, transfer by vehicle to Togendai Ropeway Station)
Among the sightseeing boats on Lake Ashi, the pirate ship is the most unique and popular choice. Cruise across the lake and enjoy breathtaking scenery.

The Hakone sightseeing boats are a major highlight of Lake Ashi. You can board from three ports along the lake: Hakone-machi Port, Motohakone Port, and Togendai Port. The three themed ships are the Royal II (Southern European Royal Sun), Victory, and Queen Ashinoko.

Departing from Motohakone Port is highly recommended, as you can enjoy spectacular views of the large torii gate, Mt. Fuji, and Lake Ashi all at once. On clear days, the sparkling lake surface and blue sky create a stunning and picturesque scene.

The one-way journey from Motohakone Port to Togendai Port takes about 30 minutes, and the fare is approximately 1,700 JPY (at your own expense).

[Hakone] ▼ Hakone Ropeway – Togendai Station to Owakudani Route (approx. 30 minutes, cable car fee included)
The most scenic sections of the Hakone Ropeway are around Owakudani and between Owakudani and Ubako, where you can enjoy stunning views of Mt. Fuji. In contrast, the section between Ubako and Togendai mainly offers beautiful views of Lake Ashi, a volcanic crater lake.

[Owakudani] ▼ Owakudani (approx. 50 minutes, free time)

Owakudani, where you can experience the volcanic energy that shaped the beauty of Hakone, is one of the region’s most famous attractions, located southeast of Mt. Fuji. It is a volcanic crater formed about 4,000 years ago during the final stages of Hakone’s volcanic activity, when a major eruption occurred on the northern slope of Mount Kamiyama. Due to the presence of toxic volcanic gases and water, it was once called the “Great Hell” before being renamed Owakudani in 1876 following a visit by the Meiji Emperor.

You may also try the famous local specialty “black eggs” at your own expense.

About a 15-minute walk from the entrance of the nature trail leads to a shop called “Tamago Chaya” in a steaming volcanic area. These eggs are boiled in hot spring water at around 80°C for an hour, then steamed at 100°C for 15 minutes. The shells turn black due to a chemical reaction between iron in the hot spring water and hydrogen sulfide, forming iron oxide. It is said that eating one black egg can extend your life by seven years.

[Yamanakako] ▼ Lake Yamanaka Swan Shore – Capture a once-in-a-lifetime photo of swans with Mt. Fuji (approx. 20 minutes)

Lake Yamanaka, one of the Fuji Five Lakes, has a lakeside area known as “Swan Shore” due to the large number of swans that inhabit it. It is not only a great place for birdwatching but also one of the best spots to photograph swans with Mt. Fuji in the background. The swans here are very friendly, as they are often fed by visitors.

[Yamanashi] ▼ Oshino Hakkai (approx. 40 minutes)

“Oshino Hakkai” refers to eight crystal-clear springs formed by snowmelt from Mt. Fuji that has been naturally filtered through layers of earth. Known for its beautiful natural environment, the sparkling waters and the stunning view of Mt. Fuji create a breathtaking landscape. It attracts photographers from far and wide. Oshino Hakkai is also designated as a National Natural Monument of Japan.

Return to central Tokyo. The return time is for reference only and may be earlier depending on how smoothly the itinerary proceeds and traffic conditions on the day.

(Travel time: approximately 2 hours)

[Tokyo] Arrive at JR Tokyo Station Marunouchi North Exit / Shinjuku Mode Gakuen, and conclude the day’s enjoyable itinerary.

Guests who selected the pick-up/drop-off package may end the tour directly at Tokyo Station or Shinjuku.

Tokyo Station (Tokyo Station Hotel) is located in Chiyoda City, Tokyo, at the center of the Marunouchi business district. It is a multi-level terminal station serving numerous lines, including the Tohoku Shinkansen, Yamagata Shinkansen, Akita Shinkansen, Joetsu Shinkansen, Hokuriku Shinkansen (Nagano), Tokaido Line, Chuo Line (Rapid), Sobu Line (Rapid), Yokosuka Line, Keiyo Line, Yamanote Line, Keihin-Tohoku Line, Narita Express, Tokaido Shinkansen, and Tokyo Metro Marunouchi Line (station code: M-17). It is not only a starting point for many railway lines in Japan but also one of Tokyo’s major transportation hubs. The iconic red-brick station building is designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan and was restored in 2012 to faithfully reproduce its original appearance from over 100 years ago.

Shinjuku is one of Tokyo’s most famous commercial and entertainment districts, centered around Shinjuku Station and extending to areas such as the East Exit, West Exit, and South Exit. It is a paradise for shoppers, offering department stores, electronics retailers, drugstores, and fashion boutiques. Popular department stores include Odakyu, Keio, and Isetan. Shinjuku is also home to Kabukicho, Japan’s most famous entertainment district, filled with restaurants, bars, karaoke venues, and nightlife establishments, often referred to as “Japan’s No.1 entertainment district.”

Shinjuku Station is one of Tokyo’s most important transport hubs, with nearly 4 million passengers daily, making it the busiest railway station in the world. Nearby attractions include Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building, and Golden Gai.
